This project is part of my final master’s project at Queen Mary University of London. More information about the research that went into this project will be posted at a later date.
The purpose of this project was to test which live coding environments and techniques would be most effective when performing with acoustic instruments in an ensemble setting. This test involved two different live coding systems, Strudle and Pure Data, programmed to play the same piece of music. A musician played with each one of these platforms individually, then ranked them in order of preference. The conclusions of this study will be released on this page at a later date.
For now, you can run the test yourself! Below you can find all that you need.
Strudel program designed to play the piece below.
Pure Data program designed to play the piece below.
Sheet music (in the key of C for all instruments) – the piano part should be transposed and adapted for any instrument being tested with the systems.
